Hubexo, formerly Byggfakta Group, is a global leader in data and software solutions for the construction sector. Its mission is to help the world build better. The company empowers its customers to maximise sales, streamline operations, and construct more sustainably.
However, when Hubexo went through rapid growth, it struggled to unify a workforce spread across more than 30 countries. Employees lacked a shared vision and felt detached from the company’s overarching mission. Hubexo recognised an urgent need to develop a cohesive engagement strategy that resonated with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
Challenge: Unifying a diverse workforce
When Lindi Teate joined Hubexo as Chief People Officer three years ago, the organisation faced significant cultural challenges. Having grown rapidly through acquisitions and an IPO, the company needed to bring its newly acquired global businesses into a shared operating system for culture and performance, all while fostering a sense of belonging among employees.
"Our biggest opportunity was also our biggest pain point, which was the size of the potential challenge. There was little commonality, limited integration, and no sense of belonging or community." – Lindi Teate, Chief People Officer, Hubexo
Lindi was a team of one for her first year, and the pace of change was constant. In her first 18 months, the business went through a CEO change, multiple iterations of strategy, and a doubled headcount with several more acquisitions. Many of the newly merged businesses had high levels of brand equity in their respective territories. To preserve that equity, they operated independently, which added to the fragmented organisational culture. Hubexo had never properly invested in strategic people leadership, so there was no infrastructure to bring its global workforce together.
Solution: Building a strong foundation for employee engagement
Recognising the need for a robust solution that could help them understand and improve morale, motivation, and retention across a global workforce, Lindi and her team turned to Culture Amp.
Culture Amp helped guide the transformation process, from data collection to strategy implementation – all to understand what was working and where to focus. Culture Amp’s platform provided the tools, data, insight, and coaching required to improve employee engagement across the organisation.
"We've embedded engagement as something we all need to understand and care about both globally and locally. It's not a people topic or an HR problem – it's a business priority.” – Lindi Teate, Chief People Officer, Hubexo
By partnering with Culture Amp, Hubexo implemented a robust engagement strategy that included:
- Engagement surveys: Regularly collecting employee feedback to identify areas needing attention
- Executive buy-In: Ensuring leadership at all levels understands how engagement connects to business performance and is fully invested in the strategy
- Global and local alignment: Creating 'One Global Network' where objectives tied to the company's vision, mission, and values are consistently communicated and activated
- Cultural ambassadors: Establishing accountability and ownership at every level through cultural ambassadors who keep engagement visible day to day
- Transparency and communication: Maintaining open lines of communication to build trust and demonstrate the impact of employee feedback on strategic decisions concerning recruitment and retention
Results: A united and engaged workforce
With Culture Amp, Hubexo has built the conditions for its teams across 30+ global offices to deliver their best work consistently.
By empowering local teams to take ownership of their engagement activities, Hubexo has introduced tailored initiatives that resonate more deeply with regional employees. The results are visible across the organisation:
- 84% survey participation rate
- 6% increase in the engagement index
- 9% increase in global motivation
- Meaningful improvements across every factor of the engagement survey with substantial gains in learning and development, feedback and recognition, and management effectiveness
Engagement is now measured alongside annual recurring revenue, customer NPS, and sales and retention figures, reflecting its role as a core driver of business performance.
"Engagement at Hubexo is now seen as part of our DNA. It's just how we do business." – Lindi Teate, Chief People Officer, Hubexo
Creating connection across a global workforce
Annual and pulse survey results show that Hubexo employees now report a stronger connection to the company and their colleagues, feeling more integrated into the global network. This has been particularly noticeable in colleagues with less than six months of service in newly acquired businesses, where initial resistance has given way to acceptance of the unified company culture.
Hubexo celebrates local culture and elevates it globally, giving local teams the frameworks to bring engagement to life in ways that work for their regions.
Initiatives that build connection across the group include:
- A shared intranet providing a single source of communication for all colleagues
- A global employer brand, localised to create alignment and a sense of belonging across territories
- Global annual people awards and localised quarterly celebrations, informed by the engagement survey
- Engagement activity translated into all 17 languages spoken across the group
- Self-directed global tribes to share best practices on functional and role alignment
Through listening circles and colleague-led culture and engagement committees, Hubexo gives employees a direct role in shaping their own experiences.
Building trust and acting with confidence
A key outcome of Hubexo’s engagement strategy is the creation of a psychologically safe environment. Colleagues are now much more open to sharing what works well and what can be improved, and employees feel confident that they can express their ideas and concerns without fear of retribution. This shift from a local mindset to a global community has encouraged more innovative thinking and problem-solving across the company.
This trust shows up in practice through:
- Transparent communication of survey results, sharing the good, the bad, and everything in between, at both local and global levels
- Regular updates from the executive team keeping employees informed about company priorities, changes, and successes
- Accelerated hiring across learning & development and communications roles when survey feedback made clear they were needed sooner than planned
By listening and acting on employee feedback, Hubexo has built the confidence to move quickly when it matters most.
"Employee engagement directly impacts retention, productivity, and overall company performance. By fostering a culture of engagement, we are ensuring that our employees are motivated, aligned with our mission, and committed to driving the company forward." – Lindi Teate, Chief People Officer, Hubexo
The impact of a people-first culture
By focusing on visibility and connection, Hubexo has humanised its brand and brought its people to centre stage. This approach has fostered a sense of belonging and community, enabling employees to see their role in the larger organisational mission.
The Executive team has supported this shift, reinforcing the importance of engagement in quarterly all-hands meetings and C-suite communications. As a result, the organisation has benefited from improved morale, job satisfaction, and ultimately, employee retention.
Lindi advises others in the people and culture space to underpin all activity with genuine pragmatism and to embrace change. Educate and communicate consistently, lead by example, and build a people-first culture. Step confidently into the space, and own your agenda.
Through its journey with Culture Amp, Hubexo has transformed employee engagement and created a blueprint for others to follow. Its story is a testament to the power of connecting culture and performance across a global workforce.
"The partnership with Culture Amp has been a genuine game changer, giving us the tools, data, and hard facts to drive activity at pace and scale with integrity and accuracy." – Lindi Teate, Chief People Officer, Hubexo
